JoyceDeWitt started performing on stage at the age of 13. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree at Ball State University. The director suggested that she enroll in UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program. She was awarded the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship, as well as the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt stated that she had never met actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She was employed as a secretary during her time at UCLA. DeWitt is most well-known for her performance in Three's company's run from 1977 until 1984 as Janet Wood. This was a job that she got after she was cast in the second pilot. She also appeared as Janet in an episode from 1979 on the spinoff series The Ropers. DeWitt was the final actor to appear in Three's Company's 1984 finale. She was then featured in an episode on Finder of Lost Lovers in 1984. After that she stopped acting for many years. She made her return on stage in June 1991 when she appeared in the Noises Off production in Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. The actress also appeared in Spring Fling, a 1995 TV comedy. Pinky and the Brain aired an episode in 1997 that featured characters based on her. The voice actor was a different actress. She was featured in an episode of Cybill. The 2000s work of her include TV shows like Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special and Call of the Wild.
